Throughout the early 2000’s the women from MAdGE were a leading voice for kiwi families. They fought for our right to choose what we eat and to know if food is GMO.
Supermarkets and major food companies listened.

MAdGE was the inspiration of Alannah Currie. Protests at supermarkets and parliament saw mums from across the country come together.
Photography played an important role in MAdGE’s public awareness campaign about the patenting of life, ethical issues, cultural values and food safety risks of Genetic Engineering.
Many New Zealand celebrities supported MAdGE by speaking up for natural food and protection of the environment.

MAdGE helped ensure strict controls on gene technology and establish GE-free as part of our national identity.
The market demand for GE-free food and the right to choose continues to grow.
MAdGE was officially closed down after being hit with costs for challenging the biotechnology industry in court.
Their legacy remains. But now the right to choose is under attack.
