Without guardrails in place these Bills threaten GE-free production and the right to choose.
Have a say on the rushed new changes to the HSNO Act. (closing 15th June 2026)
- MPs must be told to amend the Bill to protect GE-free production and exports.
- There need to be new ethical controls to prevent cruel GE experiments.
- They must not ‘redefine’ GE organisms to exclude them from controls, nor dismiss the public interest and keep people in the dark.
- Maintain our point of difference against competitors. Don’t lose our GE-free advantage against the US, Canada and Australia. Do not rubber stamp and adopt their approvals.
- Amend the Bill to hold companies responsible for harm. MPs must ensure compensation and liability for GE contamination are put into legislation. No more ‘socialised’ risk placing costs on the public for commercial gene technology.
The challenge is how to benefit from ethical use of gene technology but ensure that Nature itself is protected for future generations and the economic boom from GE-free NZ primary production continues.
This poll shows that many farmers know GE-free is an advantage.
Our exports are booming and the demand for Non-GMO food is growing.
